A now famous American novelist, Fitzgerald was not widely successful within his own lifetime, although he is now commonly considered one of the best novelists of the 20th century. In additon to four completed novels, the most famous of which is The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald wrote numerous short stories. His works tend to center around youth and promise, juxtaposed with age and despair, and embody the 1920s "Jazz Age".
