Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, often simply called Cervantes, was a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. Cervantes is best known for his novel Don Quixote which is considered by many to be the first modern European novel.

About the Book

The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, widely considered the first modern European novel, was published in two volumes (1605 and 1615). In this book the protagonist Alonso Quixano loses touch with reality and sets out to revive chivalry and bring just to the world under the name of Don Quixote. Along the way he recruits simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire. The term quixotic is derived from this book.
